Instructional Design Methodology

Our instructional design approach includes a meticulous focus on the learner experience – not on the technology. We embrace how technology has changed the training game, but the need to put the learner’s experience first remains constant. This means that we try to gain a deep understanding of the learning preferences of each client’s target audience and use that understanding to inform our overall design approach. Our design approach may include the following principles and strategies.

Active Learning

Learning by doing is the key to real, long-term behavior change. We see ourselves as pioneers, discovering new and exciting ways to enhance the possibilities of learning through innovative uses of interactive media. Enspire is leading a trend toward simulation and game-based learning, as evidenced in many of our courses.

Motivation

Our courses are driven by both an instructional strategy and a motivational strategy. Enspire understands that adult learners are practical and goal-oriented, so we make learning relevant by drawing connections between the content and learners’ experiences and knowledge. Enspire also respects adult learners’ preference for autonomous, self-directed activities. Our past work demonstrates our ability to motivate adult learners through simulations, games, interactive scenarios, and interactive case studies.

Social Learning

One risk of traditional e-learning is that it can isolate learners from each other. We actively work to create social e-learning experiences; many of our off-the-shelf simulations are multiplayer experiences that rely heavily on face-to-face interactions among players. We have experience building online learning communities through blogs, wikis, and social networking technologies.
